The Aftermetoo movement is partnering with the Canadian Women’s Foundation to launch a fund aimed at giving more financial backing to sexual-violence support services.

“In recent years – and especially since highly publicized movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp – more people have come forward to report sexual violence, and Canada’s already overwhelmed and underfunded sexual violence support services cannot keep up,” read a statement announcing the launch of the fund.

Administered by the Canadian Women’s Foundation, the Aftermetoo fund aims to raise $7 million. It will fund organizations that provide support such as mental health services, hospital and court accompaniment, and long-term counselling.

Aftermetoo, which is a Canadian movement to “activate change on sexual violence,” also on Tuesday released a nine-point recommendation report informed by suggestions and recommendations from December’s Aftermetoo Symposium. The goal of the symposium was to examine workplace sexual violence within the entertainment industry.

Recommendations from the report include: creating a fund to support counselling and legal advice for survivors in the industry; investigating cases of historical sexual violence in the industry; prohibiting sexual violence in contracts, collective agreements and workplace policies; creating an independent, national organization to address sexual violence in the industry; and demanding leadership accountability.

The report also recommended an overhaul of the way sexual violence is reported by creating options to report online through an application process. As well, the report recommends that all those working in the industry take part in regular sexual violence-prevention training from qualified trainers.
