Following last week’s announcement that it had acquired the CBC original series Bellevue, U.S. channel WGN America has picked up the U.S. broadcast rights to the Mennonite mob series Pure (6 x 60 minutes) and the political drama Shoot the Messenger (8 x 60 minutes).

Produced by Toronto’s Hungry Eyes Film & Television in association with CBC Television and ITV Studios Global Entertainment, Shoot the Messenger (pictured) was co-created by Jennifer Holness and Sudz Sutherland and premiered in October 2016.

Pure meanwhile is produced by Nova Scotia-based Two East Productions and Toronto’s Cineflix Media. The show debuted to an average audience of 858,000 (2+) on CBC in January. Cineflix Rights handles the exclusive worldwide distribution rights to Pure.

As was the case with Bellevue, neither Pure and Shoot the Messenger were renewed by CBC for a sophomore season.

All three of the CBC series will rollout in 2018 on WGN as part of the channel’s “prime crime” lineup. WGN is owned by Chicago-based Tribune Broadcasting and has a national reach of approximately 80 million households in the U.S.
