London, U.K.-based producer/distributor New Media Vision (NMV) has acquired the U.S. format rights to Les Beaux Malaises (“The Beautiful Discomforts”) from Montreal prodco Encore Television. NMV is now adapting the series for U.S. audiences. The scripted series, which first aired on TVA in 2014, follows the life of a celebrity stand-up comedian who must balance his confident on-stage persona with this awkward off-stage manner.
Super Channel
Super Channel has picked up the Canadian rights to MGM Television’s dark comedy Get Shorty (pictured). The hour-long series will begin airing on Super Channel on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 9 p.m., with episodes streaming on Super Channel On Demand the following day. The series stars Chris O’Dowd as hitman from Nevada who tries to become a movie producer in Hollywood in order to escape his criminal past and win back his estranged family. Get Shorty is distributed internationally by MGM.
DHX Media
U.K.- and Ireland-based Virgin TV has acquired rights to 30 titles from DHX Media’s library, including five seasons of Bob the Builder and the animated series Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Read more here.
