Global goes Greek
Following the lead of CBS, Global Television has picked up and will premier My Big Fat Greek Life on Feb. 24, airing the romantic sitcom between new eps of CSI: Miami and Everybody Loves Raymond. The series picks up where the hit movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding left off, and stars Winnipeg’s Nia Vardalos alongside Lainie Kazan and Andrea Martin.
CHUM goes digital
CHUM Television is set to launch Canada’s first over-the-air digital signal this month, following recent regulatory approval from the CRTC. A firm date has not been set, but CHUM-owned Citytv says it will turn on its digital signal by mid-February, broadcasting from atop the CN Tower with high-def and digital hardware from Tandberg Television in the U.K.
Toronto goes comedy
The first World of Comedy International Film Festival is set to go in Toronto. Festival entries include four feature films and 19 Canadian and 29 international comedy shorts.
The event presents movie premiers of Canada’s Punch and Judy, starring Graham Greene and Patrick McKenna. Australia’s Spud Monkey also makes its debut.
More than 48 shorts compete for the Audience Choice Shorts Award.
The festival runs Feb. 22-23 at Town Hall Theatre, Innis College.
