The 20th annual Shanghai International Film Festival is now underway, with nine Canadian films invited to screen.

Of the nine, Michael Melski’s The Child Remains will world premiere at the Chinese festival today, with Daniel DiMarco’s Juggernaut (pictured) and Scooter Corkle’s Hollow in the Land also bowing at the fest.

The Child Remains, a supernatural thriller about an expectant couple who spend a weekend at a haunted country inn, is produced by Craig Cameron and writer/director Melski with A71 Productions’ David Miller and N.S.-based Connections Productions’ Marc Savoie exec producing. The film stars Suzanne Clément (Mommy), Allan Hawco (Republic of Doyle), Shelley Thompson (Trailer Park Boys) and Geza Kovacs (Scanners).

Juggernaut, the feature debut of writer/director DiMarco, produced by Vancouver-based Mad Samurai Productions, follows a young man who is convinced his brother had something to do with their mother’s death. It stars Jack Kesy (Deadpool 2), Amanda Crew (Silicon Valley), David Cubitt (Van Helsing), Ty Olsson (The 100), Stephen McHattie (300) and Peter McRobbie (Bridge of Spies). Mad Samurai’s Matthew Cervi produced alongside co-producer Ines Eisses. Ben Silverman, Dave Valleau, Rich Mento and Jason Upton served as executive producers. LevelFILM has acquired Canadian distribution rights.

Corkle’s debut Hollow in the Land is produced by Jesse Savath and Marlaina Mah. The mystery thriller follows a family in a small town whose name is tainted by a murder committed by a family member and who must prove their innocence when another dead body turns up. The film stars Dianna Agron (Glee), Shawn Ashmore (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Rachelle Lefevre (Under the Dome). London, U.K.-based Westend Films has taken international sales rights to the film. 

Also screening at the fest are Karl Lemieux’s Maudite Poutine, Annabel Loyola’s Le Dernier Souffle Au Couer De l’Hotel-Dieu de Montreal, Darren Curtis’ Boost, Robert Cuffley’s Chokeslam, Sean Cisterna’s Kiss and Cry and Olivier Asselin’s The Cyclotron.
