Wow! Unlimited Media, the recently formed animation entity headed up by CEO Michael Hirsh, is partnering with New York-based Weinstein Company to service produce the Netflix original Spy Kids: Mission Critical (20 x 22 minutes).
Spy Kids: Mission Critical will be produced through Wow!’s Vancouver-based Mainframe Studios, which is the TV division of Rainmaker. The animated series is based on the family franchise, Spy Kids.
Wow! is a merger of Vancouver-based Rainmaker Entertainment, U.S. animation studio and multi-channel network Frederator Networks and kids’ production company Ezrin Hirsh Entertainment.
As well, Mainframe Studios is currently in production on a 60-minute Barbie special, Barbie Dolphin Magic, for children’s co Mattel. In addition, the animation studio is also working on the previously announced ReBoot: The Guardian Code (20 x 22 minutes) for Corus Entertainment. Nelvana holds the worldwide distribution and licensing rights to the rebooted show.
Among the other newly announced deals, Rainmaker Studios is collaborating with Toronto’s Awesometown Entertainment to produce the animated feature film Elliot: The Littlest Reindeer. Wow! Unlimited’s Frederator Studios also received a greenlight last month from Amazon to produce Costume Quest, which based on the role-playing video game of the same name.
The Amazon news comes of the heels of the announcement that Frederator Studios will produce the Netflix original series Castlevania. The medieval fantasy series is based on the Konami video game and adapted for the screen by Warren Ellis.
