The world premiere of Norman Jewison’s new film The Statement will take place at the 17th AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival.
The film, a three-way coproduction among Toronto’s Serendipity Point Films, France’s Odessa Films and the U.K.’s Company Pictures, stars Michael Caine as a French Nazi collaborator trying to avoid an investigation into his past. Jewison directed the project and produced with Serendipity’s Robert Lantos. Jeremy Northam, Tilda Swinton and John Neville also star in the film, written by Ronald Harwood (The Pianist), who adapted the novel by Brian Moore.
The Statement shot from March to June in France on a reported budget of $27 million. It is Jewison’s 24th feature film and will open in Canada (through distributor ThinkFilm) and the U.S. (via Sony Picture Classics) on Dec. 12.
The AFI Fest runs Nov. 6-16 and will also feature screenings of Canadian films The Barbarian Invasions by Denys Arcand and Belleville Rendez-vous (Les Triplettes de Belleville) by Sylvain Chomet.
