* Felix (Fil) Fraser of Edmonton has been named to the board of directors of Telefilm Canada.
Fraser is an adjunct professor of communications studies at Athabasca University, and a past president and CEO of VisionTV. He served as chief commissioner of the Alberta Human Rights Commission between 1989 and 1992, and previously was an independent producer in the educational, broadcast and feature film sectors.
* Christine Cote has been promoted to general manager of Vivatoon, the animation division of Montreal production company Vivavision. She replaces Francois Brisson.
Cote has worked in the industry since 1987, in development, creative and producing capacities with CineGroupe, Groupe Coscient and with the youth and animation department at Motion International.
* CTV has promoted two longtime employees – John Murphy to director, affiliate promotions and Kevin Watson to director of advertising. Murphy, who was at CFCF Montreal for the past year, will now oversee promotion at CTV’s 21 local stations across the country.
Watson has worked with CTV for eight years, most recently as senior advertising manager. His new responsibilities include overseeing the scheduling of on-air promotions and third-party advertising for CTV and its English-language specialties.
* Wilfrid C. Blonde is APTN’s new chief financial officer. Blonde has worked for Petro-Canada, Imperial Oil and was VP and CFO at the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation. He will be based at the native channel’s Winnipeg head office.
* Sarah Ker-Hornell is FilmOntario’s new managing director. The Bessie Award winner ran her own commercial production company, Angel Films, and is a founding member of the Commercial Production Association of Toronto. Ker-Hornell will help promote Ontario as a film and television center.
* Michelle Nadon has been appointed to the newly created position of director of media and entertainment practice at integrated HR services company IQ Partners.
* Edward Taylor has joined TOYBOX Toronto as the new CG character animation supervisor. Before joining TOYBOX, the computer artist worked at Sony Pictures Imageworks and Industrial Light & Magic. His film credits include Men in Black II, Star Wars: Episode One and Hollow Man. Taylor will supervise, plan and create the motions, gestures and expressions of 3D CG characters and objects.
* Toronto-based broadcast design and production company Loopmedia Inc. has appointed Tony Graham senior producer. He will oversee the production of broadcast design, music videos and TV commercials.
Brian Coughlin joins as business development manager and Jan King has been promoted to director of client services and strategic planning.
