Guy Mayson, previously the executive VP of the Canadian Film and Television Production Association, is officially being named president and CEO of the organization. Mayson had been serving as acting president and CEO after Elizabeth McDonald stepped down last August after eight years in the role.
Mayson joined the CFTPA in 1997 as senior VP, operations, focusing extensively on taxation, financing and international marketing issues as they relate to production. He came from a background in the Department of Communications and Canadian Heritage, during which time he was involved in the development of the Canadian Television Fund and the Cultural Industries Development Fund. Mayson has also served as manager of the Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office and he oversaw amendments to the Capital Cost Allowance program in the late 1980s.
According to his CFTPA bio, Mayson has also been hands-on in the film industry, starting out as a freelance writer and director on doc, drama and commercial projects.
