Following a successful domestic theatrical run that saw Snowtime! (La Guerre des Tuques 3D) rake in a box office gate of more than $3 million, the film has landed a significant release deal in China.
The animated feature, produced by Quebec’s CarpeDiem Film and TV, has been picked up by China Film Group Corporation for a theatrical run that will see Snowtime! screen in approximately 4,000 theatres across the country.
The deal was secured by Stuttgart, Germany-based sales agent Sola Media GmbH and the film is now scheduled to open on April 1. In China, the film, which is a remake of a classic Quebec film originally released in 1984, is distributed by China Film Group Corporation in collaboration with Renart Pictures International. The film has been dubbed into Chinese by local voice actors and the songs have been reinterpreted by performers such as Chinese boy band TF Boys and singer/actor Lu Han.
The deal was announced as part of Melanie Joly’s recent trip to China, where the Minister of Canadian Heritage met with local officials and Canadian creators working in the country to discuss Canadian arts and culture.
In Canada, Snowtime! is distributed by eOne, while in the U.S. it was picked up by L.A.-based distributor Shout! Factory.
Snowtime! is produced by CarpeDiem in association with Quebec-based animators Studio Singing Frog. The film is directed by Jean-François Pouliot in collaboration with François Brisson.
