Montreal director of photography Pierre Gill was one of the big winners at the American Society of Cinematographers Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Feb. 8. Gill nabbed the lensing prize for telefilm on a network channel for the miniseries Hitler: The Rise of Evil, the Alliance Atlantis/CBS production that also aired domestically on Global affiliates.
The Quebec DOP beat out the lensers of the pilots for Miracles, The Lyon’s Den and Vegas, as well as the MOW Brush with Fate. Gill was nominated for an ASC Award in 2000 for his work on the mini Joan of Arc. The other ASC winners were John Schwartzman for Seabiscuit, Tami Reiker for the pilot of HBO’s Depression-set fantasy series Carnivale, and Jeff Jur for the ‘Pick a Number’ episode of Carnivale. *
