The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television will honour veteran actor Christopher Plummer with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2017 Canadian Screen Awards.

The Montreal-native has starred in more than 100 films over the course of his 65 year-career, but he got his start on radio and stage. In 1954, he made his New York stage debut and went on to star in productions on Broadway and London’s West End. Plummer has been nominated for seven Tony Awards and has picked up two for Cyrano (1974) and Barrymore (1997).

His first feature film credit was for Sidney Lumet’s Stage Struck, after which he worked steadily in film and TV, including a starring role in 1965’s Oscar-winning The Sound of Music. In 2010, Plummer won an Academy Award for his supporting role in Beginners. More recently, Plummer starred in Atom Egoyan’s Remember and will voice the character of Dr. West in Arcana Studio’s upcoming Howard Lovecraft & The Frozen Kingdom. 

The 2017 CSA gala, which will be held Mar. 12 in Toronto, will be hosted by Howie Mandel. CBC will broadcast the event live.
