The high-definition rollout continues to cover the Canadian map, with CTV launching CTV HD West, a new national HD feed for broadcast through Bell ExpressVu, on June 1. The station offers the same programming lineup as Vancouver’s CTV British Columbia, presenting true HD content when available, with analog shows digitally ‘upconverted.’
CTV says more than 30% of its primetime lineup is currently available in HD, with that number to increase in the fall with the addition of Canuck series Corner Gas, The Eleventh Hour, Degrassi: The Next Generation and Instant Star as well as nine MOWs and minis, including Lives of the Saints, Sleep Murder and Crazy Canucks. Many of the net’s bread-and-butter U.S. shows, including the CSI and Law & Order franchises, are also available in HD.
CTV HD West follows on the heels of CTV HD East, launched in November on the ExpressVu and Rogers systems. CTV specialties TSN and Discovery Channel went HD in August 2003.
