Burnett brings Global Frequency pilot to Vancouver
Vancouver – Reality uber-producer Mark Burnett is throwing one of his new scripted shows Vancouver’s way: a pilot that hopes to be a survivor as a mid-season replacement show for WB.
Global Frequency is based on the ‘graphic novel’ series about a high-tech and covert intelligence agency dedicated to protecting global security from international politics.
Production on the pilot, directed by Nelson McCormick (Alias), runs Aug. 9-30. The project also preserves Vancouver’s reputation for conspiracy-edged storylines a la The X-Files.
No cast was signed at press time. However, the source material suggests that women will figure prominently. GF is led by former National Security agent Miranda Zero, one of her key advisors is the young genius Kate Finch, and the cranky dispatcher Aleph is also a woman.
Writer/executive producer John Rogers has worked in Vancouver through features Catwoman and The Core. Ian Edwards

Vancouver – The Sandlot 2 (aka Son of The Beast), which went into production in Vancouver July 2 and wraps Aug. 21, is a $4.5-million direct-to-video feature – the first project for the new Fox Home Entertainment division.
The sequel updates the original 1993 family feature shot in Utah. In the original, set in 1962, a boy moves into a new neighborhood and gets into adventures with his baseball-playing friends – including facing the scary, ball-eating dog known as The Beast. In the sequel, set in 1972, 10 young kids have new adventures on the old sandlot and have to face the son of The Beast in a new epic battle.
No cast was confirmed at press time. David Mickey Evans, who wrote and directed the first film, is back with the sequel. Vancouver-based Vicki Sotheran (Sedona Entertainment) is a coproducer.
Delivery is expected by the end of the year, with some of the post-production handled in Vancouver, says Sotheran. Ian Edwards
