9 Story Media
Cartoon Network Latin America has picked up season two (52 x 11 minutes) of 9 Story Media series Numb Chucks. The network previously acquired the first season of children’s series, airing during 2014. The animated comedy, which 9 Story produces for Corus Entertainment channel YTV, has previously been licensed to Cartoon Network’s Boomerang (U.S.), Kix (U.K.), ABC  (Australia), TVNZ (New Zealand), TG4 (Ireland), Canal+ and Family (France) and Super RTL (Germany).

Productivity Media
Productivity Media has acquired the rights to screenplay writer Rick Gadziola’s script For God and Country. The feature-length script is based on the true story of William H. Carney, an African-American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Carney was awarded Medal of Honor for his role in the Battle of Fort Wagner in 1863. Productivity will finance and produce the film, though no timetable has been set for the in-development project.

108 Media
108 Media, the Toronto-based global distribution company, has picked up a raft of titles, which will debut at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA 2016). Of the four new titles picked up by the distribution co, three will fall under the company’s 108 Believe label, a specialty distribution arm founded in 2015, and focused on bringing inspiring, real-life stories to the screen. The latest acquisitions under this brand focus on key issues of the year: climate change and the Syrian refugee crisis. The three 108 Believe titles are Cold Love directed and produced by award-winning filmmaker Deia Schlosberg about Lonnie Dupre who has spent the last three decades traveling through the Arctic and raising awareness about the challenges faced by the Inuit people as these regions come under siege; Exodus: Our Journey to Europe, a film by Elias Mater that documents the harrowing journey of Syrians as they attempt to cross over from Turkey to Greece and ultimately appeal for asylum; and Footprint, directed and produced by filmmaker Valentina Canavesio, which takes viewers into worlds where over-population, over-consumption and resource scarcity meet. A fourth title The Great Sasuke follows Japanese wrestler and politician Mikiko Saski during a year of political and cultural change in his life.

In the U.S., the country music-based series was cancelled by ABC in the spring, before CMT picked up the fifth season of the show.
