CBC scores big with Grey Cup and Greatest Canadian

CBC’s coverage of the Nov. 21 Grey Cup match between the Toronto Argonauts and the B.C. Lions drew an average four million viewers, making it the second most-watched Grey Cup game in the last 10 years, with audiences peaking at 4.5 million in the game’s last half-hour. This marks a 4% audience increase over last year’s Grey Cup match (Edmonton Eskimos vs. Montreal Alouettes), which attracted an average 3.85 million viewers.

On Nov. 29, an average 944,000 viewers tuned in to see ‘Father of Medicare’ Tommy Douglas win the title of Greatest Canadian, with the audience peaking at 1.1 million viewers during the last half-hour. A two-hour recap of the 10 nominees, which aired Nov. 28, drew an average 671,000 viewers.

Meanwhile, CTV’s CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Global’s Survivor: Vanuatu continue to battle it out for Thursday night audiences. On Nov. 11, it was almost too close to call. CSI drew 3.075 million viewers 2+, 47,000 more than Survivor’s 3.028 million. The CSI episode for that night was its 100th episode for the November sweeps. According to a Global spokesperson, however, Survivor drew more viewers in the key adults 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54 categories, and females 25-54.
