Carole Taylor announced her resignation as chair of CBC/Radio-Canada’s board of directors on March 14. She intends to enter provincial politics in her home province of British Columbia, where she will run for office in May. Taylor served as CBC chair for the past four years.
In a farewell address to CBC employees, Taylor said that although ‘it has been an honor to serve in this capacity… I believe in public service, and while I’ve kind of given up the idea that I might change the world, I still hope to be able to make a difference to my own community.’
Taylor plans to run in B.C.’s May 17 election as a member of the province’s Liberal Party under Premier Gordon Campbell. She will run in the safe Liberal riding of Vancouver-Langara, which has been held for the past 14 years by Val Anderson, who plans to retire. Taylor previously served two terms on Vancouver Council – in 1986 and 1987 – and has served as head of the Vancouver Port Authority and the Vancouver Board of Trade.
