Reelworld goes Off World

The Reelworld festival will celebrate its tenth anniversary with Off World, director Mateo Guez’s story of a man who returns to the Philippines in search of his family. The feature, produced through Toronto’s Theo Films, will open the multicultural festival on April 7.

The five-day fest, which revealed its lineup this week, also has a number of shorts on deck including The Don of Virgil Jr. High by U.S. director Deon H. Hayman, which follows an attempt by a pair of nerdy kids to dominate their school, and Shanti Baba Ram and the Dancers of Hope from Toronto’s Steve Rosenberg, about a photographer and his girlfriend’s obsession with India.

Feature docs include Nollywood Babylon — by directors Ben Addelman and Samir Mallal, seen at last year’s Sundance — about the booming movie industry in Nigeria.

Dramas include Tehroun by France’s Nader T. Homayoun, which looks at three men accused of trafficking of new-born babies and their nightmarish journey into Tehran.

The fest will close with the U.S. feature Teo’s Journey by Walter Doehner Pecanins, which revolves around a boy’s search for his father lost on the U.S.-Mexican border.
