Hot Sheet: Saturday Night Live leads overall demand

The 50th season of the weekly sketch-comedy series premiered on Sept. 28.

NBC’s Saturday Night Live (pictured) led overall demand in Canada in mid-September, weeks ahead of its 50th season premiere.

The weekly sketch comedy show landed at No. 1 on the chart for overall TV originals. It was 45.7 times more popular than the average TV series in Canada during the week of Sept. 9 to 15, according to Parrot Analytics.

The latest season of the Lorne Michaels-created series premiered on Sept. 28.

At No. 2 is The Daily Show with a demand average of 43.8. The news satire series saw a large jump in demand as it did not appear on the list last week. Jon Stewart returned as a guest host ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, and hosted a special edition on Sept. 10 following the presidential debate.

Landing behind those series at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, is the NBC reality show America’s Got Talent, with a demand average of 39.5 and the long-standing PBS educational children’s series Sesame Street, with a demand average of 39.4. Rounding out the top five is Prime Video’s animated-musical comedy Hazbin Hotel, with a demand average of 39.3.

For digital originals, Hazbin Hotel remains at No. 1, with Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power holding on to No. 2 with a demand average of 31. The third spot went to Netflix’s Emily in Paris with a demand average of 27.5.

Editor’s note: Due to a data processing issue with Parrot Analytics, the weekly Hot Sheet is being published with back-dated numbers for an indefinite period.

Parrot Analytics calculates its Top 10 lists using Demand Expressions, which are shown by using a metric that demonstrates how much more in-demand the top series are than the average TV show (linear, pay TV, SVOD and AVOD) in Canada. For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is 10 times more in demand than the average TV show in this market.
