Production is underway in Vancouver on Brightlight Pictures’ Scorched Earth, a post-apocalyptic action film directed by Peter Howitt.
Shawn Williamson of Burnaby, B.C.-based Brightlight Pictures and Daniel Zirilli of L.A.-based Pop Art Film Factory are executive producing the project. Jamie Goehring and Kevin Leeson of Burnaby, B.C.-based Lighthouse Pictures are producing Scorched Earth.
The film is produced by Brightlight Pictures in partnership with Lighthouse Pictures. Lighthouse Pictures packaged the film, with London-based Great Point Media providing the financing for the film. The script for Scorched Earth was penned by The Colbert Report writer Bobby Mort and Kevin Leslie (Mongolian Death Worm).
Scorched Earth follows the story of a bounty hunter named Gage who lives in a rudimentary society established several generations after an environmental collapse. The film stars ex-MMA fighter Gina Carano (pictured) and John Hannah. Also set to appear in the film are Dean S. Jagger (Game of Thrones) and Ryan Robbins (Spectral, Warcraft).
Howitt is represented by Pacific Artists, while Carano is represented by Gersh and The Syndicate. Hannah is represented by ARG Talent, and Williamson is represented UTA.
In November, Brightlight announced it has signed on to coproduce the Canada/Iceland copro Penance, set to go to camera this year. In October, Brightlight also entered a five-picture sales deal with L.A.-based Voltage Pictures.
