Shaw Media’s Global TV has greenlit Mary Kills People, a six-part dramatic series created by newcomer Tara Armstrong and executive produced by Tassie Cameron.
The series is produced by Cameron Pictures and Entertainment One in association with Shaw Media.
Mary Kills People is Armstrong’s first television project, and follows a single mother and ER doctor named Dr. Mary Harris, who in her off time helps terminally ill patients looking to end their life. Armstrong developed the project as part of Shaw Media’s 2015 Writer’s Apprentice Program. The project was also showcased as part of the Canadian Film Centre’s Bell Media Prime Time TV Program.
Production is set to start on Mary Kills People this summer in Toronto, with a premiere date of January 2017. The greenlight comes just over three months after it was announced cop drama Rookie Blue would come to an end after six seasons. Cameron was an executive producer on that series, which was produced by eOne and ICF Films.
eOne will handle the international distribution of Mary Kills People.
