Knowledge Network reappoints Rudy Buttignol

British Columbia-based broadcaster Knowledge Network has reappointed Rudy Buttignol (pictured) as president and CEO for a five-year term ending in 2020.

Since joining the company in 2007, Buttignol has transformed the pubcaster into a digital media service with linear and digital channels serving the province of British Columbia. The company has in recent years boosted original content production, launched a linear HD channel, introduced VOD and live streaming properties to its digital space, and rolled out a mobile app.

Under Buttignol’s guidance, the broadcaster says it has reduced its reliance on government funding through a number of strategies, including growing viewer donations, “the establishment of an endowment fund and revenues from the operation of BBC Kids, a joint venture with BBC Worldwide.”

Throughout his new term, Buttignol will focus on expanding Knowledge Network’s “TV Everywhere” strategy.

“Thanks to British Columbians’ generous and increasing financial support, Knowledge Network has become the most publicly supported public broadcaster in Canada,” said Buttignol in a statement.

“Together with our operation of the BBC Kids channel, we will continue to reduce our dependence on government funding and build the foundation for a financially sustainable public broadcasting institution that will endure for generations to come,” he added.
