Victor Loewy has been elected as the president of the Canadian Association of Film Distributors and Exporters (CAFDE).

Loewy will replace the departing Hussain Amarshi, who held the position for nearly two years. Amarshi took the reins at CAFDE in December 2013 from Ted East.

“After launching our position paper, Revisioning Feature Film Distribution: Public Policy for an Era of Digital Upheaval, CAFDE has taken a more prominent role in the public policy conversation about the future of the film industry in Canada in the context of changing technology,” said Loewy in a statement announcing his new position. “I am eager to get to work building on this foundation, I look forward to connecting Canadian audiences with Canadian and independent feature films through collaborative partnerships, private sector leadership and public policy solutions.”

Loewy is the former CEO at Alliance Films, which was acquired by eOne in 2012. Today, he’s a chairmain with Playback’s Distributor of the Year, Elevation Pictures. At CAFDE, he heads up a team consisting of VP Mark Slone (EVP, theatrical distribution, eOne Films Canada, Entertainment One), secretary and treasurer Emily Alden (VP, Pacific Northwest Pictures), Québec representative Patrick Roy (president, eOne Films Canada & Les Films Seville, Entertainment One), counsel Richard Rapkowski (SVP, business and legal affairs, Entertainment One) and Amarshi.
