Telefilm Canada and the Rogers Group of Funds have renewed their Theatrical Documentary funding program for 2015-2016.

The program provides financial support for English- and French-language feature-length documentary projects. The Rogers Group of Funds and Telefilm Canada co-finance the program, which aims to support the production of docs that are aimed primarily at theatrical audiences.

This year, the program will for the first time provide financial support to documentaries at the post-production phase. The program also supports the production of documentaries, but not development.

At the production stage, Telefilm will make a recoupable financing contribution to English-language docs of up to $125,000 or 49% of production costs, whichever is lesser.

Rogers will make a recoupable equity investment up to $125,000 of production costs. Telefilm’s level of financing for French-language projects on the production side is the same, while Rogers’s funding level is up to $62,500 of eligible costs.

At the post-production stage, Telefilm and Rogers will make a recoupable financial contribution of up to $75,000 or 49% of postproduction costs, whichever is lesser. The funding can come solely from Telefilm or Rogers, or from a combination of the two bodies.

Documentaries the program has supported in the past include Nettie Wild’s Faultlines, Rama Rau’s The League of Exotic Dancers and Lea Pool’s En attendant maman.
