New prizes at Banff

More than $100,000 in pitching prizes — sponsored by Canadian and international broadcasters — is up for grabs at this year’s Banff World Television Festival.

New this year is Pitch It!, which will hand out US$10,000 to the best pitch in the youth drama category, sponsored by New York-based The N. The winner will also receive a $5,000 motion picture film product grant, sponsored by Kodak.

The best lifestyle pitch in Pitch It!, meanwhile, will receive a £5,000 cash development prize, courtesy of UKTV Style.

The Comedy Network will dish out $10,000 for the best laugher pitch, while parent CTV returns as sponsor of the Canadian Documart pitch, which provides $60,000 in development funding to the top three documentary pitches. In addition, the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund is again featuring iPitch 2007 Where Television Gets Interactive, with a $10,000 development prize.

‘Banff is excited that so many high-profile broadcasters have come onboard to support our pitch competition,’ said the festival’s director of content Jennifer Harkness in a release.

Submission forms for TV producers interested in pitching projects at Banff are available on the festival website. The Banff festival takes place June 10-13.
