Shaw Media has added a number of new Canadian series to the lineups of its various specialty channels, in addition to new seasons of Yukon Gold, Timber Kings, Vikings and Chopped Canada.
Paperny Entertainment’s Klondike Trappers (working title, 8 x 60 minutes) has been added to the History lineup for fall 2015, joining another Paperny-produced show, Yukon Gold. Other Canadian series added to the lineup are JV Production’s Curse of the Frozen Gold (6 x 60 minutes) to bow on the channel on Sept. 2, along with Yap Films’ Battle Factory (14 x 30 minutes), to premiere on Sept. 4.
Natural Born Outlaws, from CMJ Productions, will have its world broadcast premiere on History this fall. Other newly acquired series include Lost Treasure of the Knights Templar, Outlaw Chronicles: Hells Angels and Tree People. The fourth season of Vikings will also bow on History in 2015/2016, which will feature the first scenes to be shot in Canada. Other series returning for next year include Counting Cars, Pawn Stars, American Pickers and Mountain Men.
Food Network Canada has also added a new original Canadian series to its fall lineup, The Incredible Food Race (working title, 6 x 60 minutes). Each episode sees two families compete in a food race challenge, with the winner receiving a year’s worth of groceries courtesy of Walmart. The series is based on a concept from Shaw Media, with Tricon Films and Television producing. The original Chef in Your Ear, from Toronto-based HLP+Partners, will also bow on Aug. 31 on the Food Network. This fall will see the launch of Food Network Canada’s Great Canadian Cookbook, an interactive website where Canadians can contribute to a digital cookbook, and a broadcast special hosted by Lynn Crawford and Noah Capppe and produced by Alibi Entertainment.
Returning series this year include Chopped Teen Tournament, Holiday Baking Championship, Halloween Wars, and Paperny Entertainment’s Chopped Canada, which will include a new teen chef competition special.
Showcase will air the final seasons of Lost Girl and Continuum in 2015/2016, with Lost Girl bowing Sept. 6 and Continuum on Sept. 4. The fifth season of Haven, a Canada/American copro, will also air on Showcase starting in October, with Outlander returning to the specialty for its second season. Newly acquired programs added to the Showcase’s fall schedule are Mr. Robot, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and The Magicians.
The second season of Unusually Thicke will move over to HGTV Canada from Slice in 2015/2016, under the new title of Unusually Thicke: Under Construction. This year will also mark the bow of The House that HGTV Built. The previously announced series produced by Architect Film will see HGTV Canada hosts come together to create a home that one HGTV viewer will win, and the Canadian series Breakneck Builds. The specialty has also picked up Tiny House Big Living, a spin-off of Tiny House Hunters. Series returning to the specialty include House of Bryan, Fixer Upper, Flip or Flop, Ellen’s Design Challenge, Leave it to Bryan and Timber Kings.
Slice will bow this year Force Four Production’s First Dates, a format adaption that documents singles on dates. Other series set to air on the channel this year include Million Dollar Listing: San Francisco, a new series from the Million Dollar Listing franchise, and Work Out New York and NeNe and Kim.
