With Goon: Last of the Enforcers set to start production in Toronto in June, Montreal’s Caramel Films has confirmed that Canadian actor and writer Jay Baruchel will also add directing to his remit for the sequel.
Baruchel, who co-wrote the script and is also set to co-star alongside Seann William Scott, takes over from Michael Dowse, who directed 2011’s Goon.
The sequel will shoot at Cinespace Film Studios (Kipling) in Toronto and be produced by Caramel and Toronto’s No Trace Camping.
Goon was a success in Canada when it debuted in 2011, earning over $3 million at the domestic box office in its opening week and taking home the Telefilm Canada Golden Box Office Award in 2013. The film also did well in its post-theatrical release with approximately $1 million in sales across DVD, Blu-ray and VOD.
