The BC Film Commission at Creative BC and Cinespace Studios Toronto were winners for this year’s Global Production Awards in Cannes.
The awards, whose winners were revealed on May 19 at the Mademoiselle Gray Barriere in Cannes, celebrate outstanding and sustainable work in film and TV production, locations and studios.
The BC Film Commission took home The Film Commission of the Year award for a city or region, presented to a commission with an established reputation for great service to productions and a top filming destination.
Cinespace Studios Toronto was named for Studio of the Year. Cinespace was founded in Toronto by Nick Mirkopoulos. Aside from Toronto, Cinespace locations include Atlanta, Chicago and Wilmington, North Carolina.
The Studio of the Year award is presented to a studio complex for adaptability and outstanding service to productions and goes to the studio that, through its body of work, demonstrates delivering to the highest standards for productions.
Cinespace Studios productions include Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale as well as Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy and Cabinet of Curiosities.
The Global Production Awards were judged by a jury of international figures from across the industry including Jay Roewe, SVP at HBO; Valerie Guerette-Langlais, head of production, tax and incentives at A24; and Veronica Sullivan, head of global production, external affairs and state and local government at NBCUniversal.
