Several screen artists were among those recognized at the ninth annual Gala Dynastie at the Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts in Montreal.
The gala, which took place yesterday (April 27), is presented by TD Bank Group in collaboration with SODEC, and honours Black talent in Quebec’s artistic and media landscapes. The event was hosted by comedian Garihanna Jean-Louis.
Fabiola Nyrva Aladin (Viking) won Actor of the Year – TV and Cinema. Separately, Sharon James (Bête Noire) won best actor.
Abdou Sako, who has worked on films such as Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, was recognized as the Visual Effects Artist of the Year.
Actor Schelby Jean-Baptiste won Host of the Year – TV and Cinema. Baptiste is the host of the upcoming TV5 docuseries Dans l’oeil de la fête (Productions Mustang), airing this winter.
Michèle Stephenson (Stateless), who is currently based in Brooklyn, was recognized as the filmmaker of the year.
Comedian Tailaire Laguerre, also known as Tai TL, was awarded the 2025 Dynastie Impact Award. He rose to fame in 2021 during the pandemic lockdowns by posting a reality show he created to Instagram called Occupation Hood. He has also appeared on season two of Just For Laughs Entertainment’s LOL Just For Laughs. He has 1.9 million followers on TikTok and 835,000 on Instagram.
The gala also paid tribute to Haitian-born Canadian journalist and television presenter Herby Moreau, who died in November 2024.
