Norm Coyne and Kate Kroll’s co-directed documentary Good to Be Seen tells the story of Battlestar Galactica actor Michael Hogan and his recovery following a traumatic brain injury.
The feature, produced by Coyne’s Barker Street Cinema and Kroll’s Black Moon Media, initially began filming in October 2024 at a Battlestar Galactica reunion with additional filming planned at Northern FanCon in Prince George, B.C. in May and in Vancouver this fall, Coyne told Playback Daily.
The documentary combines archival footage and performances with interviews from Kirkland, Lake, Ont.-born Hogan’s previous co-stars, including Mary McDonnell, Ohsweken, Ont.-born Graham Greene and Edward James Olmos. Olmos is also an executive producer on the project.
Good to Be Seen has received support from the Disability Screen Office and development funding from Telefilm Canada. The film was also a part of the Whistler Film Festival’s 2024 Doc Lab, for B.C.-based filmmakers with projects in development. The film is currently looking for Canadian and international sales and distribution.
Hogan, outside of his role in Battlestar Galactica, is known for series such as MTV’s Teen Wolf and FX’s Fargo as well as his voice acting. In 2020, Hogan was affected by a major brain bleed following a slip and fall. According to a GoFundMe page created by his wife, the injury left him with complete paralysis on his left side, memory loss, cognitive impairment and an inability to swallow.
“This is more than your classic comeback story,” said Kroll in a statement. “It’s a beautiful love story and a moving portrayal of the family support that accompanies Hogan as he faces a challenging future [and] way of life post-accident.”
