WFF sets cohorts for Doc Lab, Women in Focus Mentorship

Each of the Whistler Film Festival's (WFF) cohorts consist of five B.C.-based filmmakers.

The Whistler Film Festival (WFF) has set the cohorts for its Doc Lab and Women in Focus Mentorship.

Each initiative consists of five B.C.-based filmmakers.

For the Doc Lab, applicants with creative documentaries in any stage of development are selected for project development, mentorship and industry immersion. The participants will also attend WFF + Content Summit where they will have networking opportunities, one-on-one meetings and professional development sessions.

The five documentary filmmakers selected include three based in Vancouver: Ivanna Samuel with the project This is My Baby, Ben Cox with Simple Pine Box and Brendan Prost with The Performance of a Lifetime.

Rounding out the selections is West Kelowna-based Norm Coyne with Good to Be Seen and Squamish-based Jay Trusler with West Coast Wild Child.

The mentors for the Doc Lab include Jessica Hallenbeck, owner of Vancouver-based prodco Lantern Films; and documentary filmmaker and former NFB producer Selwyn Jacob.

The Women in Focus Mentorship gives five female or non-binary filmmakers a mentorship opportunity and attendance at WFF + Content Summit to network with other filmmakers, industry executives and mentors.

The participants, all based in Vancouver, are Jane Diokpo, Louisa Phung Suk Yee, Steph Song, Jovanna Burke and Malka Martz-Oberlander.

The mentor for the cohort is Sharon Stevens, VP, programming at Hollywood Suite.

The WFF + Content Summit lineup will be announced Nov. 5. The festival runs from Dec. 4 to 8.
