Youth Media Alliance unveils noms for 2025 Awards of Excellence

This year’s selections include projects from Sinking Ship Entertainment, WildBrain, APTN, Lopii Productions and Blue Ant Studios.

Canada’s Youth Media Alliance (YMA) has announced its nominees for the 2025 Awards of Excellence.

The awards from the Montreal-based non-profit will take place on May 28 with a ceremony scheduled at the CBC’s Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto.

Sinking Ship Entertainment is well-represented on this year’s shortlist, scoring nods with Apple TV+’s Jane, TVOKids’ Odd Squad, Family Channel’s Beyond Black Beauty and Telus Optik’s Media Stamped (pictured).

Jane, which follows the adventures of a 9-year-old environmentalist, was nominated in the live-action scripted category for ages 6 to 9 along with an episode from Sinking Ship’s Dino Dex and WildBrain’s I Woke Up a Vampire.

Dino Dex‘s Michela Luci, Jane‘s Ava Louise Murchison and Ellora Lopez from 9 Story Media and Brown Bag Films’ Rosie’s Rules, were also nominated for the category of Outstanding Youth Performer.

WildBrain also received multiple nominations, including Best Narrative Film or One-Off Special category, where a pair of its Apple TV+ Snoopy specials – Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin and Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie – along with its Family Jr. and Netflix special Strawberry Shortcake and the Beast of Berry Bog.

The fourth nominee in the category is Blue Ant Media and Hawkeye Pictures’ documentary Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe, directed by Robert McCallum.

One episode each from two series are nominated in the preschool, live action non-scripted category. The series are The Fabulous Show with Fay and Fluffy (Lopii Productions) and APTN’s Indigenous Art Adventures.

Lopii Productions received another nomination in the live action, non-scripted category for ages 6 to 9 for Dream It To Be It. The series which explores the professional and avocational passions of children was selected alongside Apartment 11 Productions’ Green Squad, Riverbank Pictures’ Trading Skills and Blue Ant Studios’ Old Enough.

In the realm of animation, Les Productions CarpeDiem’s Butterfly Tale, PVP Media’s SuperKlaus, Apartment 11 Productions’ Interstellar Ella and Fresh TV’s Total Drama Island were nominated for the best program, animation category for ages 6 and older.
