Sphere Media, Radio-Canada partner on quiz show format

La Question is based on the original U.K. Channel 4 series One Question, licensed by NBCUniversal Formats.

Montreal-based Sphere Media and Radio-Canada have partnered with NBCUniversal Formats, a division of Universal Studio Group, to bring a new version of the quiz show One Question to ICI Télé and ICI Tou.tv.

The series is based on the original U.K. version, created by Chalkboard TV and hosted by Claudia Winkleman (pictured) on Channel 4. One Question is licensed globally by NBCUniversal Formats. The Quebec adaptation, La Question, will be coproduced by Sphere Media and Radio-Canada in association with NBCUniversal Formats.

In La Question, a pair of contestants need to answer a single question to win a cash prize. However, the question has 16 possible answers and the pair must discuss and work together to eliminate the 15 incorrect ones.

The 12 x 60-minute series will be hosted by popular French Canadian presenter François Morency (Discussions avec mes parents). Over his career, Morency has hosted more than 20 galas and TV variety shows and spent more than a decade on the radio.

One Question is a quiz show unlike any other and is perfectly primed for international adaptation,” said Suzanne Kendrick, NBCUniversal Formats’ VP, format sales, in a statement. “We can’t wait to bring audiences a uniquely French Canadian version with our partners at Sphere Media and Radio-Canada and the one and only François.”

In 2021, NBCUniversal Formats secured the formats rights to Morency’s Discussions avec mes parents for the Middle East, Asia and Eastern Europe.
