Indigenous preschool series Chums renewed for season three

The 3D-animated series is broadcast by APTN, Citytv Saskatchewan and TFO.

A PTN, Citytv Saskatchewan and TFO have renewed 3D-animated preschool series Chums for a third season.

The series’ producers, Saskatoon’s Paxolotl Media and Winnipeg’s Zoot Pictures, announced the renewal on Monday (Sept. 16).

Production on the 9 x 30-minute third season will get underway in Winnipeg and Saskatoon in November. The series is produced in English, French, Cree and Ojibwe.

Chums follows a young girl and her ragtag group of animal friends as they follow Indigenous traditions to explore the world around them. The series is directed by Dennis Jackson (Wapos Bay), who co-writes with Paxolotl Media’s Eric Jackson and Justina Neepin. Zoot Pictures’ Leslea Mair is an executive producer.

The producers also announced that the first two seasons of Chums have been acquired by SBS Australia’s National Indigenous Television channel. Further international deals will be announced in the coming months.

Chums has also been selected to screen at the Native Spirit Festival in London in October. The series made its festival debut in March at the Māoriland Film Festival in New Zealand.

Chums is produced in association with APTN and Citytv Saskatchewan, and with the participation of the Shaw Rocket Fund, the Canada Media Fund, the Indigenous Screen Office, and federal and provincial tax credits and incentives.
