CMF to inject $1 million annually into IPF production program

The funders have previously partnered on development funding for short-form series.

The Independent Production Fund (IPF) and the Canada Media Fund (CMF) have expanded their partnership to support short-form series productions.

The collaboration will see CMF contribute $1 million annually to the IPF’s Short Form Series Production Program, increasing the total program envelope to nearly $3 million.

The maximum funding allotment for projects will see an increase as well, jumping from $200,000 to $250,000, with the IPF also able to support a greater number of projects per year, according to a news release.

This is an extension of their pre-existing partnership on the CMF-IPF Short Form Series Development Program, which funds projects in the development stage.

“We are delighted to deepen our partnership with the IPF and bolster funding for short-form series as they move from the writer’s room into production,” said CMF president and CEO Valerie Creighton in a statement. “I know strengthening this program and partnership will give more Canadian creators the boost they need to bring their stories to screens today and long into the future.”

“The importance of the short-form series format for emerging and transitional producers cannot be overstated,” added IPF CEO Jon Taylor. “Providing more support for IPF funded teams to get to production is crucial for both the future of the project and the potential career path of the teams.”
