Black Fawn picks up Canadian sci-fi comedy The Hyperborean

The film from Collingwood's Jesse Thomas Cook will be out on VOD this week with a planned physical release later this year.

Black Fawn Distribution has acquired Canadian rights to The Hyperborean.

The sci-fi comedy is directed and produced by Collingwood, Ont. filmmaker Jesse Thomas Cook and written by cast member Tony Burgess. It follows a PR crisis manager who leads a dysfunctional family out of unusual fiascos, including an ice mummy and a triple homicide.

Black Fawn will release the film on VOD in Canada on Wednesday (July 24), following a planned physical Blu-ray release later this year styled with retro VHS artwork. It has also been added to the company’s Blacklist series catalogue.

The Hyperborean is produced by Cook’s banner Collingwood Film Company and is also produced by Sam Scott. The film was acquired in the U.S. by L.A.-based Freestyle Digital Media.

Cast members include Burgess, Liv Collins (The Hexecutioners), Ry Barrett (In A Violent Nature), Jessica Vano (Cult Hero), Jonathan Craig (The Haunted Museum), Marcia Alderson and Justin Bott (Fear Thy Neighbor).

In a statement, Cook said Black Fawn’s “dedication to creating special edition Blu-rays and passion for physical media mirrors our own commitment to innovative genre storytelling.”
