Telefilm Canada has launched the second phase of its Sustainability Action Plan with a key focus on accountability, capacity building and collaboration.
Phase two builds on the initial plan, which was launched in December 2021 and known as the Eco-responsibility Action Plan. Telefilm’s sustainability goals are driven by the Government of Canada’s target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and will be operationalized through its programs, communication efforts, human resources policies and industry partnerships.
The framework for the second phase, which spans 2023-25, is built on 10 objectives, including developing a policy framework and defining decarbonization strategies and tactics and how they will be implemented.
Telefilm will boost support and assess the viability of sustainability tools like carbon calculators and accelerate implementation of best practices of film festivals.
The plan is also focused on internal training and workshops for producers and the wider industry as well as research to identify areas of improvement.
In this second phase, Telefilm will seek to diversify its partnerships to support a collaborative approach to tackling sustainability challenges.
“Building on the progress made under Telefilm’s first action plan, this second phase continues with a strategic framework to lead collaboratively with an inclusive approach,” said Julie Roy, executive director and CEO at Telefilm, in a statement.
“This next phase further emphasizes knowledge-sharing, capacity building and accountability. And as part of our strategic vision, we are incorporating environment, social and governance (ESG) principles to guide our implementation of responsible, equitable, and sustainable policies and practices,” added Roy.
Telefilm’s sustainability efforts are informed by its 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, Indigenous Reconciliation Plan, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan, and its Accessibility Plan.
