Shaun Alperin has been appointed as head of content at Prime Video Canada.
Alperin (pictured) has been with Amazon Studios since August 2020, most recently serving as principal, content acquisition.
He assumes the role from Nav Saini, who recently departed the company. Saini’s exit is not related to the recent layoffs at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, Playback understands.
Alperin has handled a number of key acquisitions out of Canada during his time at Amazon, including the documentaries Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make Believe (marblemedia) and Kids in the Hall: Comedy Punks (Blue Ant Studios), docuseries Elisabeth Rioux: Sans filtre (Trio Orange), and the upcoming untitled Tragically Hip documentary from Mike Downie.
Alperin was formerly director, business development, international digital networks at Starz before joining Amazon. He has also had roles at ESPN, Hulu, and Cinedigm, and has an MBA from Harvard Business School.
