Film adaptation of Quebec play docks in Cuba

Pédalo has been adapted for the screen by writer, director, producer and star Stéphane E. Roy.

Cameras are rolling in Cuba on actor and playwright Stéphane E. Roy’s Pédalo.

The film is written and directed by Roy, and based on the play of the same name, co-written by Roy and Benoit Roberge. Principal photography began in Havana on Monday (Oct. 23) and wraps on Nov. 4, according to a news release.

Pédalo is produced by Roy under his banner Production e Point, its new subsidiary Cinema e Point, and Dero Films. Patrick DesRosiers is also a producer, while Marilyn Bastien serves as executive producer and Hélène Boulay as international executive producer.

Starring Roy, Camille Felton, Marc Fournier and Catherine Proulx-Lemay, the film centres on two couples whose all-inclusive resort vacation in Cuba goes awry and the men get stuck on a drifting pedal boat. Unlike the play, the film brings a female point of view to the story, said the release. The stage version is also produced by Productions e Point and has been running across Quebec since 2022.

Pédalo is produced with the support of water and nautical sports goods maker Pelican, beauty and skincare brand Watier and the brewing company Les Brasseurs West Shefford. Montreal-based Les Films Opale is the film’s Canadian distributor. The budget was not disclosed.
