Le cyclone de Noël passes $2M at the box office

The film, inspired by the KOTV-produced series L’oeil du cyclone, released theatrically on Nov. 8.

KOTV’s Le cyclone de Noël has passed $2 million as of Friday (Dec. 6) at the box office following its theatrical release on Nov. 8.

The film, directed by Alain Chicoine, is inspired by the ICI Tou.TV Extra series L’oeil du cyclone (KOTV) and is the first Radio-Canada original film produced by KOTV. Earlier in November, the film had passed $500,000 at the box office a week following its release.

Le cyclone de Noël, written by Dominic Anctil (L’oeil du cyclone), Marie-Élène Grégoire (La médiatrice) and Louis-Philippe Rivard (450, chemin du golf), is still being shown in 63 theatres across Quebec after opening in 70 locations on Nov. 8, according to the release.

Le cyclone de Noël stars Christine Beaulieu (Cerebrum), Véronique Cloutier (Dangerous People), Patrick Hivon (Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person), Catherine Souffront Darbouze (Allen Sunshine), Danielle Proulx (C.R.A.Z.Y.), Luc Senay (Veille sur moi), Emi Chicoine (Noémie Says Yes), Juliette Aubé (Avant le crash) and Joey Bélanger (Sweetheart) who all return from the series.

The film follows Beaulieu as her character tries to protect the traditions and magic of Christmas.

Production on the film began on April 14 and ended on May 7. It is executive produced by KOTV’s Louis Morissette, Mélanie Viau and Louis-Philippe Drolet. KO Distribution and Les Films Opale are distributing the film.

The film’s premiere date on ICI Tou.TV Extra will be announced on Monday (Dec. 9), according to a spokesperson for the film. A fifth season of the series will also be arriving to the service on Feb. 6, 2025.

Le cyclone de Noël was produced with the financial support of Société de développement des entreprises culturelles, Telefilm Canada and the Canada Media Fund.
