The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) has announced the nominees for its annual Indiescreen Awards, which honour the work of Canadian film producers.

The Established Producer Award recognizes a producer’s work over the course of their career and comes with a $20,000 prize.

This year’s nominees include Tanya Brunel (Logical Mayhem, Rezolution Pictures) for the documentary Coming Home (Wanna Icipus Kupi); Niv Fichman, Fraser Ash and Kevin Krikst (Rhombus Media) for the dramedy Blackberry; Nancy Grant (Metafilms) for the romantic comedy Simple comme Sylvain; Jason Levangie and Marc Tetreault (Shut Up and Colour Pictures) for The Queen of My Dreams; and William Woods and Allison White (Woods Entertainment, Sara Fost Pictures) for the fantasy drama The King Tide.

The Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award recognizes a producer’s early filmmaking accomplishments and career prospects, and comes with a $10,000 prize.

The 2023 nominees include Anam Abbas (Other Memory Media, Citylights Media) for the drama In Flames; Michael Tanko Grand (Grand Scheme Productions, 666 Films) for the doc Satan Wants You; Alona Metzer (Leilani Films) for the drama Backspot; Sean O’Neill (Visitor Media) for Swan Song; and Andria Wilson Mirza (Baby Daal Productions) for The Queen of My Dreams.

Andrew Addison, VP, communications, marketing and membership, CMPA, said in a statement that “this year’s nominees have demonstrated an impressive capacity to stand out in an incredibly tough industry.”

The winners will be announced at the Indiescreen Awards ceremony at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 7, presented in partnership with Telefilm Canada.
