Animal Planet renews docuseries Pets & Pickers

Vancouver prodco Tyson Media will go into production on the series' third season this week.

Bell Media specialty channel Animal Planet has greenlit a third season of the docuseries Pets & Pickers.

The series, which is produced by Tyson Hepburn (Rust Valley Restorers) of Vancouver-based Tyson Media, follows workers at the Regional Animal Protection Society (RAPS) Animal Hospital in Richmond, B.C., which raises funds for its veterinary services by running its own thrift store.

Production on the 8 x 60-minute third season will begin this week, a spokesperson for Tyson Media told Playback Daily. As part of pre-production, the prodco and RAPS employees have reached out to residents in B.C.’s lower mainland to donate items or storage units to be featured on the show.

Pets & Pickers had its series premiere on Bell Media’s Discovery channel on May 12, 2022, followed by the season two premiere on May 6, 2023. Bell Media Distribution sold the first two seasons of the series to Animal Planet in the U.S. earlier this year.

“Bell Media’s ongoing support for the series has been paramount in increasing donations to RAPS over the past two years,” said Hepburn in a statement. “The recent Pets & Pickers–themed gala event hosted in Richmond in June this year raised in excess of $120,000 to support animals and their people.”
