Telefilm Canada has allocated $3.8 million in support to seven French-language feature films in the latest round of its Production Program’s big budget stream.

Four coproductions are among the selections, including two that have Montreal’s Maison 4:3 attached as distributor: director Chloé Robichaud’s comedy Deux femmes en, a Canada-France copro, written by Catherine Léger and produced by Montreal’s Vieille Amérique; and writer-director Vanja d’Alcantara’s Belgium-Canada-Netherlands drama Cap Farewell, produced by ACPAV.

The other two copros are the dramas L’héritier des secrets and Ma mère, Dieu et Sylvie Vartan. Morocco-Canada feature L’héritier des secrets is directed by Mohamed Nadif, who has also co-written the film alongside Olivier Coussemacq. The film is produced by Montreal’s Objectif 9, and distributed by Filmoption International.

Writer-director Ken Scott’s France-Canada copro Ma mère, Dieu et Sylvie Vartan is produced by Montreal-based Christal Films Productions and distributed by Les Films Opale.

Rounding out the titles selected in this round are Raymond St-Jean’s horror Nervures, co-written by Martin Girard and St-Jean, produced by 1976 Productions and distributed by Axia Films; the drama Le train by writer-director Marie Brassard, which is produced by Microclimat Films and also has Axia attached as distributor; and Bachir Bensaddek’s drama Kaboul Montréal, written by Marie Vien, produced by Caramel Films and distributed by Maison 4:3.

The projects are assessed by an advisory committee of external and internal representatives which then makes recommendations to Telefilm. More funding decisions will be announced in the coming weeks, according to a news release.
