Canada has been selected as the Focus Country for this year’s Producer Hub at the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM), the industry platform for the Busan International Film Festival in Busan, South Korea.
As the Focus Country, Canada will co-host the Producer Hub Opening with ACFM, the Busan International Film Festival’s market platform, through Telefilm Canada. It will also have activities centred around showcasing coproduction projects, producers and industry trends from Canada.
“Canada’s selection as the 2025 Focus Country for Producer Hub is largely thanks to the strong will and initiative of our partner, Telefilm Canada,” said Ellen Y. D. Kim (pictured), director of ACFM, in a statement. “We are pleased to establish this meaningful partnership in line with the 2024–2025 Year of Cultural Exchanges, marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and Canada.”
The Producer Hub, launched by ACFM in 2024 with South Korea as the inaugural Focus Country, is designed to facilitate networking and information exchange between producers seeking international coproduction and financing.
Canada will send a delegation of up to 15 Canadian producers for participation in various programs, including coproduction seminars and speed meetings. Telefilm is hosting a call for entries for the delegation with the deadline set for June 5.
“Partnerships between countries in the audiovisual industry have proven to be a powerful catalyst for creative innovation, cultural exchange and expanded audience reach,” said Julie Roy, Telefilm executive director and CEO. “We value the meaningful connections platforms like the Producer Hub create for Canadian and international producers to enhance coproduction opportunities and to meet the rising demand for cross-border partnerships.”
The 2025 edition of ACFM runs from Sept. 20 to 23 while the Busan International Film Festival runs from Sept. 17 to 26.
