Canadian actor Lamar Johnson is up for an Emmy Award for his role in the Alberta-shot HBO series The Last of Us.
Toronto-born Johnson — has been nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series for The Last of Us, which premiered on HBO and Crave in January. The series earned a total of 24 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. Johnson earned a Canadian Screen Award for his lead role in Clement Virgo’s Brother earlier this year.
Nominations for The Last of Us also include a host of Calgarians in the technical categories: set decorator Paul Healy (Outstanding Production Design); assistant costume designer Rebecca Toon and costume supervisor Michelle Carr (Outstanding Contemporary Costumes); department head hairstylist Chris Glimsdale and key hairstylist Penny Thompson (Outstanding Contemporary Hairstyling); and production mixer Michael Playfair (Outstanding Sound Mixing).
Meanwhile, Hamilton-born comedy veteran Martin Short has also been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series for his role in Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building; Luke Kirby has been nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series on Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel; and Windsor, Ont.-born Oliver Platt has also been nominated in the same category for his role in FX’s The Bear.
Another Alberta-shot production, the TV movie Prey (Hulu/Disney+) received several nominations, including Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Television Movie, while Showtime’s Vancouver-shot series Yellowjackets received three nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series.
Chilean-Canadian music composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer has been nominated for Outstanding Music Composition For A Series on HBO Max’s The White Lotus, while Montreal’s Antoni Porowski is up for Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Competition Program on Netflix’s Queer Eye.
The winners of the 75th Emmy Awards will be announced on Sept. 18.
