Bell Fund commits over $4.4M to 21 TV, digital series

A total of $2.4 million has been allocated through the TV Selective Program and more than $2 million via the Short-Form Digital Series Program.

The Bell Fund has committed more than $4.4 million in production and audience development support through the TV Selective Program and Short-Form Digital Series Program.

A total of $2.4 million in production support has been allocated to five English-language and five French-language series in the latest round of the TV Selective Program. More than $2 million will go towards six English-language and five French-language short-form series via the Short-Form Digital Program, including $1.5 million for production and roughly $500,000 for audience development.

The five English-language TV projects include two new CBC series: the drama Allegiance (Lark Productions; 10 x 60 minutes) and the comedy One More Time (Counterfeit Pictures; 13 x 30 minutes).

The other English projects include  season three of Mysteries from Above (Saloon Media; 8 x 60 minutes), the investigative series for Blue Ant Media’s specialty channel Cottage Life; season three of APTN’s Gespe’gewa’gi: The Last Land (Rezolution Pictures; 9 x 30 minutes); and season four of OUTtv’s Drag Heals (Border2Border Entertainment; 8 x 30 minutes).

The five French-language TV projects include one new series: TFO’s Hotel Beyrouth (Sahkosh Productions, Productions Ocho; 8 x 30 minutes). The other four are second seasons of ICI Radio-Canada Télé’s Avant le crash (Sovimage; 10 x 60 minutes), Série Plus’ Bête noire (Encore Télévision; 6 x 60 minutes), AMI-télé’s La clé Deschamps (Iprod Media; 10 x 30 minutes), and Télé-Québec’s L’air d’aller (Urbania; 10 x 30 minutes).

The English-language digital projects include two CBC Gem series, Finding Diamonds (Farpoint Films; 6 x 15 minutes) and season two of Macy Murdoch (Shaftesbury Digital; 8 x 11 minutes), and two OUTtvGO series, Two Brothers (Meikle Productions; 8 x 10 minutes) and Well Versed (Border2Border Entertainment; 6 x 20 minutes).

Shaftesbury Kids’ Every Body Curious (Louise Pollard; 6 x 20 minutes) and Northwestel Community TV’s Northern Tails (Shot in the Dark Productions; 6 x 11 minutes) round out the English-language projects.

The five French-language short-form series are ICI Tou.tv’s Discrètes (Avanti-Toast; 10 x 15 minutes); Noovo’s J’adore le jus (Casadel Films; 6 x 15 minutes); Savoir.Media’s La préhistoire du Québec (Productions Planète en Rotation; 10 x 15 minutes); season two of Télé-Québec’s On joue! Avec Biscuit et Cassonade (Écho Média; 21 x 7 minutes); and TV5Unis’ Synchro (Productions ToRos; 6 x 8 mins).
