CBC renews Heartland for milestone 17th season

The first episode of the 10 x 60-minute season will be Heartland's 250th episode.

CBC has renewed its long-running drama Heartland for a 17th season, marking a milestone for the series.

Produced by Dynamo Films and SEVEN24 Films, Heartland is now in production in Alberta on the 10 x 60-minute season. Filming locations include Calgary, High River, Millarville, and Longview, Alta.

The first episode of season 17 will be the series’ 250th episode, according to a news release. Heartland is billed as the longest-running one-hour Canadian drama. It first premiered on CBC in fall 2007, with the 17th season scheduled to premiere on CBC and CBC Gem this fall.

Mark Haroun serves as showrunner and executive producer for the new season.

Executive producers on season 17 also include Michael Weinberg, Tom Cox, and Jordy Randall, with Dean Bennett as co-executive producer and Jess Maldaner as producer. This season’s writers include Haroun, Ken Craw, Caitlin Fryers, Heather Conkie, Alexandra Clarke, and Adam Hussein.

Returning cast members include Amber Marshall, Michelle Morgan, Shaun Johnston and Chris Potter.

Heartland is produced with the financial participation of the Canada Media Fund, the Government of Alberta, the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit, and the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit. Entertainment One is the international distributor.

The series has a significant following in the U.S., garnering approximately 18 billion minutes of views on streaming platforms in 2022, according to Nielsen.
