The U.S.-based production service provider plans to develop and coproduce unscripted content locally.

South Carolina-headquartered production service provider Media Content Services (MCS) has opened shop in Toronto with plans to develop and coproduce unscripted content with local prodcos.

The company opened a Toronto office effective April 1, with MCS CEO Shawn Moffatt (pictured) leading the Canadian operations.

Nightmare On My Street with Robert Englund (8 x 60 minutes), a coproduction between MCS-owned, New York-based prodco My Entertainment and Winnipeg- and Toronto-based Frantic Films is the first of its planned unscripted collaborations.

The true-crime title was recently launched at MIPTV’s annual documentary and factual copro market, MIPDOC, in Cannes by U.K.-based distributor Rainmaker Content. MIPTV wraps on Wednesday (April 19).

The opening of its Toronto office will also allow the company to help clients take advantage of Canadian tax credits and incentives, initially for editing and post-production, to lower their overall cost of production, according to a news release.

MCS subsidiary Go To Team (GTT) will hire a Toronto-based director of photography, said the release. GTT provides staff video crews to networks and production companies. Fellow MCS-owned company and video crew provider Assignment Desk (AD) will work with local clients to promote the Canadian services.

“We plan on being a great partner to the already talented and resourceful Canadian production community,” said Moffatt in a statement.
