Cineflix Media has appointed seasoned attorney Dina Appleton as EVP, global business and legal affairs, based in its Toronto office.
Appleton has started her position and will head Cineflix Media’s global business and legal affairs teams, reporting to Peter Emerson, president, Cineflix Media, according to a news release issued Monday (March 20).
She’ll oversee business and legal affairs matters in the areas of development, production, acquisition, and distribution of television and digital content across Cineflix Studios, Cineflix Productions, and Cineflix Rights.
Appleton will also oversee the group’s growing number of joint ventures and creative partnerships, and work in conjunction with the other members of the executive team across the company’s global offices. Sam Berliner, who was promoted to general counsel earlier this month, previously held the title of EVP, legal and business affairs.
Appleton joins Cineflix from Toronto-based Boat Rocker Media, where she was appointed EVP, global business and legal affairs in 2018.
Prior to Boat Rocker, Appleton was SVP, head of television business and legal affairs at Entertainment One. She’s also served as special counsel in the entertainment, media and communications group at Los Angeles firm Sheppard Mullin, and is co-author of the book Hollywood Dealmaking: Negotiating Talent Agreements, originally published by Allworth Press in 2002.
In a statement, Appleton called Cineflix “a media powerhouse” and “a valued partner to creative talent.”
Emerson said Appleton’s “invaluable expertise” will help support the momentum of Cineflix Media as it continues to expand its international production and distribution operations in its 25th anniversary year.
