Bloomberg Media is teaming with Cream Productions and Wildfire Television for a new original unscripted series, An Optimist’s Guide to the Planet, hosted by Game of Thrones alum Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
Set to launch in 2024, the six-episode Canada/U.K. coproduction follows Coster-Waldau (pictured right) as he travels the world to meet with people who are positively transforming the environment in order to steer humanity to a brighter future.
The series spotlights subjects ranging from electric aircraft engineers in Vermont, to Nashulai Conservancy elders in Kenya, to the women leading sustainable Mezcal production in Mexico, addressing issues like including biodiversity, food sustainability, chemical pollution and more.
An Optimist’s Guide to the Planet with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is produced by Cream and Wildfire Television in association with Bloomberg, Bell Media and Ill Kippers Aps. The series is executive produced by David Brady, Philip Clarke, Kate Harrison Karman, Coster-Waldau, Joe Derrick, Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier, with Patrick Cameron serving as co-executive producer.
The title is the newest addition to the growing slate of Bloomberg Originals — including Getting Warmer with Kal Penn and The Future with Hannah Fry — which are available via streaming on the Bloomberg app (accessible on such platforms as Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and more), as well as on BTV+ and Bloomberg.com. Originals programming is also broadcast during select primetime and weekend time slots on Bloomberg TV.
“Our goal in launching Bloomberg Originals is to inform, educate and inspire modern leaders across the globe through premium storytelling, and An Optimist’s Guide to the Planet epitomizes these values while taking us on an epic adventure,” said Kyle Kramer, Bloomberg’s head of original programming, in a release.
